Frequently Asked Questions

What is a breastfeeding cover?

A breastfeeding cover is an accessory used when nursing mothers require coverage whilst feeding, be it because they are not wearing a specifically designed nursing top or they simply feel a little exposed when nursing in public places.  Quite often new mums may feel self conscious about their post-baby figures, not happy to have their back, belly, or breasts on display for all to see.  Having a breastfeeding cover available for ready access in your nappy bag or pram makes it convenient if nursing mothers find themselves in a situation where they need to feed but would prefer to do so discreetly.

Breastfeeding covers are also a good choice for women who find garments designed specifically for nursing, be they tops or dresses, both expensive and often unattractive.  This type of accessory allows nursing mothers the flexibility to wear whatever feels comfortable in their wardrobe on any given day, without the need for worry about achieving the coverage they desire when feeding.

Alternatively, if you are a nursing mum who wears breastfeeding tops or dresses most days, having an accessory like a breastfeeding cover in your nappy bag can prove very convenient.  If you are caught by surprise in a social situation not wearing the appropriate type of garment, having a breastfeeding cover at the ready ensures there is no hesitation in feeding as you normally would.

What sets Mani Designs styles apart from the rest?

Research has shown many of the breastfeeding and nursing covers currently on the market cover baby completely and consist of neck straps and clasps which can prove troublesome, particularly in public situations.  With a view to make nursing mothers and their babies feel more confident and comfortable, each of the Mani Designs styles was designed with the intention to cover mum, not baby, and simplify the breastfeeding process by not relying on clips and fasteners to hold the garments in place.  Such designs offer nursing mums a unique point of difference... Confidence and discretion whilst breastfeeding, regardless of clothing worn or occasion, without covering baby in the process.

Which of the Mani Design styles should I choose?

The Shoulder Shrug is designed for those mums who may feel comfortable feeding their baby around close girlfriends and family without coverage, however feel a little uncomfortable exposing their breasts in public.  If you are a nursing mum who is looking for a discreet coverage option and most often wears v-neck, button-up, or wrap style tops or dresses (any garment needing to be pulled down to feed) the Shoulder Shrug may be the best style for you.

Alternatively, the Cafe Cover is designed for nursing mothers who prefer a comfortable level of coverage whilst feeding the majority of the time, regardless of who, or the number of people around.  The Cafe Cover is also the best option for those mums who may be feeling a little self conscious about their post-baby body (be it back, tummy, or breasts) as it offers the most coverage of all the Mani Designs styles.  This style works particularly well with garments such as t-shirts, tanks, and polo shirts (any garment needing to be pulled up to feed).

If you are a mum who is attending a special occasion or formal function and looking for a comfortable and unique breastfeeding option, the Ruffled Wrap is most definitely the stylish alternative for you.  The Ruffled Wrap is an accessory that not only looks the part, but offers breastfeeding mums flexibility during events which may have otherwise proved difficult to attend.  And the best part is, you will enjoy wearing this gorgeous, satin accessory well after you’ve finished nursing!

Why is black the only colour offered?

If all nursing mothers were to look at their wardrobe as a whole... skirts, jeans, slacks, dresses, shirts, etc... they would soon notice there are many colours and patterns.  Whilst some breastfeeding covers offer a range of colours and patterns themselves, it was felt the Mani Design styles should be able to coordinate effectively with everything.  Black as a colour allows our styles to do just that!  It is practical, fashionable, and when in a crowded place doesn’t draw attention specifically to you whilst feeding.  Each style has been designed to simply be an extension of your existing wardrobe, without clips, clasps, neck rings, and noticeable fastenings.

We have even put together for you a comparison chart (below) highlighting a sample wardrobe selection and how each outfit looks when worn with a brightly coloured and patterned breastfeeding cover compared with the simplicity of the Mani Designs colour option.
